PGP International Inc.,an ABF Ingredients Company, is pleased to announce that they have been awarded Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for Sport™ registration from NSF International, a global public health and safety organization that writes standards and tests and certifies products for the food, water and nutritional supplement industries.
A key component of NSF International’s Dietary Supplement Certification Program is GMP for Sport™ registration, which helps minimize the risk that sports nutrition products are manufactured with athletic banned substances, such as steroids, stimulants, narcotics, beta blockers and masking agents.
NSF International’s GMP for Sport™ Program enables manufacturers working within the sports supplement industry, such as PGP International, to emphasize quality and increased brand credibility.
Doug Bishop, Sales Manager at PGP International said, “We are delighted to have achieved this registration at our specialized Springfield facility which helps highlight the state of the art technology we are able to offer to customers.”
GMPs are regulations outlined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which require that the processes by which dietary supplement ingredients are produced are safer and free of possible contamination. This includes all aspects of the manufacturing process, from raw material control to finished product release, as well as employee training, validation of testing equipment, product traceability and facility maintenance.
GMPs for the current NSF International Dietary Supplements Certification Program are included in NSF International American National Standard 173, the only American National Standard for Dietary Supplements.
GMP for Sport™ registration verifies PGP International’s Springfield facility and operations, as well as that ingredient sourcing complies with GMP requirements via ongoing audits.
“PGP International’s GMP for Sport registration from NSF International exemplifies the company’s commitment to following good manufacturing practices and sports nutrition,” said Ed Wyszumiala, General Manager of NSF’s Dietary Supplements Certification programs.
