Reports to: Packaging Team Lead
Summary: Responsible for Packaging and Shipment of finished product.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Help set-up bagging equipment for correct size and type of bag.
- Fill, sew or seal product bags and stack as directed on pallets or slip sheets.
- Ensure that the bagging scales are dumping the correct weight into each bag.
- Ensure correct product is placed in the correct bag and meets the customer’s specification.
- Perform routine maintenance of bagging equipment, elevators and conveyors as directed and inform the Packaging Team Lead of any mechanical or safety concerns.
- Ensure the correct product is loaded onto outgoing trucks and that the load is clean and secure.
- Load by-products into bulk trucks using overhead hoppers and/ or forklifts.
- Perform regular cleaning of the exterior of the facility.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practice and Safety rules.
- Maintain a clean work area.
Requirements:
- Ability to understand verbal and written documents in English such as safety rules, labels and procedures. Packhand must have sufficient verbal skills to interact with the Millers, Supervisors and Graders, as well as complete documentation
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written or oral form.
- Must be able to pass a Company supplied Forklift Operator Test and receive a Forklift Operators License.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts and overtime as necessary.
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 66 pounds regularly and heavier amounts occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
