SUMMARY:  Under the direction of the Director of Product Development, the Food Scientist is responsible for technical expertise of specific products and industry areas.  The Food Scientist is responsible for analyzing new ingredients, developing new products, improve existing products, and interfaces with sales associates and customers to meet their product development needs.

It is preferred expertise in areas of food science and technology, such as ingredients, extrusion, baking, beverage, and dairy is desired.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develops/implements/executes technical action plans for specific projects.
  2. Provides technical support to Sales/Marketing, as well as manufacturing and PGP International customers.
  3. Designs sound experiments and conducts data analysis in support of project objectives.
  4. Evaluates results and recommends next steps within the project deliverables.
  5. Communicates results to appropriate levels within the organization to meet business objectives.
  6. Maintains up to date knowledge of manufacture, composition and functionality of food ingredients as related to specified industries.
  7. Represents PGP International in meetings with customers and trade associations following corporate guidelines to promote a positive image.

Essential Physical and Mental Requirements  

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. with or without accommodations
  • Must be able to assist plant trials on a regular basis
  • Must be able to travel to assist plant trials at out of town and state locations on an as-needed basis
  • Must be able to carry out tests in a laboratory. Open to complete other assignments as required

 

Jobholder Entry Requirements:

BS/MS Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, or equivalent. 5-10 years Product Development and Process Development. Knowledge in the manufacture, process, composition, physical and chemical properties, and functionality of foods and food ingredients. Operation of RVA and Texture Analyzer. Computer literate – Word Processing, Excel, PowerPoint, Genesis.
